Hög Church

Hög's Church near the town Hudiksvall at the Bothnian sea in Sweden, 61°45′59″N 17°2′27″E. The church is medieval and in the summer 2009 Bertil Israels had the opportunity to scan and photograph some of the old boards after they had been cleaned according to instructions by T. Bartholin who preformed a more extensive investigation of the church. Eight of the measurement series by Bertil could easily be cross dated towards each other, and turned out to be from four different trees. They contains between 129 and 200 years. Initially we were not able to crossdate this collection towards other references, but sins Bartholin told Bertil his result towards a local reference (not available to us), saying 1192 for the oldest material, we have found this dating plausible. Scandinavian references covering this timespan are available from Lappland (2), Jämtland (1 partial), Dalarna, Mälardalen (1, just 39 years overlap), Småland, Gotland (2, partial) and Savonlinna-area in southeastern Finland (several, but a mean of them used). Using one reference from each area except Gotland, the pattern supports the 1192 date, although the best correlation towards the Lappland (itrdb019w), is a bit unexpected. So the date is probably correct, but still in need of stronger support. Until then cautiousness is essential when used as reference.
