BM01 QUSP
BM01 is a bog oak sample, QUSP, found in the bog "Bockstens mosse" in Halland. The oak was hollow and the the rings very narrow. It was possible to measure 183 rings but in the outermost part of the sample there are a few more rings which are unclear. The wood was found by Owe Wennerholm 1992, 30-40 cm down in the wet outermost part of the bog. The find is described in his book.[1]
No reasonable match has been found towards any available reference (mainly 2'nd millenia AD). This may be because of bad correlation between this oak or bog oaks generally towards oaks from firm ground in the area. Another possibility is that the sample is older than the references. An indication of this is that there are no oaks in the bog area today, and a pollen analysis done in 1936, in connection with the find of the Bocksten man (13'th or 14'th century), seems not to have shown any oak pollen either[2]. The suggested dating 1830, mentioned in the book, seems a bit unlikely. No reasonable correlations are found in that time span.
